2014 Valentines Wedding Fayre at The Beaches Hotel, Prestatyn

Sascha (The Wedding Coordinator at The Beaches) asked me to exhibit again at their 2014 wedding fayre on Valentines weekend. The layout was changed from previous years with all exhibitors on the same floor and this seemed to work much better. We saw a  good number of brides and grooms through the day and the customer seating for the Wedding Bliss catwalk show was full.

With plenty of exhibitors on show there was plenty to see, experienced professionals to chat to and I’m sure many came away with some great ideas for their big day.

Photographers don’t necessarily expect to get actual bookings at wedding fayres, it’s often the first time we’ll have met couples face to face. Choosing a photographer for your wedding is a very personal thing, after all you’ll probably spend more time on the day with him/her than anyone else! You need to choose someone who’ll act in a professional manner, who’s  covered by public liability and professional indemnity insurance, who has a proven track record of getting good results in all situations, who listens to what you want and delivers what he/she promises. So it’s not surprising that couples want to shop around a little before confirming a booking. There are some excellent photographers in North Wales and there are some who upset couples and their guests on a fairly regular basis! I ‘ll leave all that for another day.

We actually met someone for the first time on Sunday and they booked us there and then and paid a booking fee (my new mobile card terminal came in handy). That was great and we’re looking forward to meeting them again at our pre-wedding meeting and then again on the big day! And other brides who saw us at The Beaches have since called and arranged a private viewing of our albums at the studio.

So, all in all, an enjoyable way to spend – my one “day off”!

Here I go into the world of WordPress Blog sites!

This is my first attempt at a Blog Site. I’ll use it to update all my readers (!) just what I’m up to at Chris Porteous Photography.

For a start I won’t be publishing photos from of all of my weddings this year. Not all bride and grooms are into social media and some just want their special day to be kept a little more private, and I fully respect that. So this blog will hopefully just give you a flavour of what I’m about and I’ll try not to make it too boring!

Had a great meeting with a lovely young couple on Saturday in the studio. Met them first at the Oriel Hotel open evening the other week and they have now booked me to photograph their wedding at The Oriel in August 2015. Seems a long way off but in terms of wedding bookings it isn’t really and we’re already getting enquiries about 2016.

I’m one of the “Preferred Wedding Suppliers” at The Oriel Hotel, St Asaph and I do enjoy photographing weddings there. Michelle, Sarah and all the staff really look after their wedding couples.

I spent the rest of Saturday setting up my new website which hopefully will go live this week. It’s similar to my current one but will be more compatible with smart phones and tablets than my current Flash-based site is.

Today I’ve been sheltering from the wind and occasional shower in my greenhouse! There are quite a few seedlings popping up now and that will keep me busy in the next few weeks transplanting them into pots. The days are getting longer and let’s hope they get stiller, dryer and warmer soon!

Here’s hoping for a great 2014!
